Saturday, 8 November 2008

CHITTAGONG, Nov 7 (UNB): Hindu-Bouddha-Christian Oikya Parishad has urged the government, the Election Commission (EC) and political parties to ensure security of lives and property of country's minority community during the upcoming elections.
Parishad leaders made the call at a conference held at JM Sen Hall in the city Friday with its south district president Ranojit Chowdhury in the chair.
The speakers demanded 20 per cent reserved seats in Parliament and other democratic institutions from the minority groups.
They also urged the political parties, including the Awami League (AL) and the BNP, to nominate candidates from the minority groups for No 8 constituency here in the upcoming polls as 40 per cent people of this constituency belong to the minority community.
Some 52 representatives of the parishad took part in the discussion.
