Mir Nasir, Akbar denied bail again

CHITTAGONG, Jan 22: A court in the city has rejected bail prayers of two senior leaders of the opposition BNP today in a case filed during the party's hartal (general strike) programme in November last.
BNP chairperson's advisor Mir Mohammed Nasir Uddin and central organising secretary Golam Akbar Khondakar sought bail in the case filed against them on November 27.
After hearing both the parties the court of acting Metropolitan Sessions Judge Abdur Rashid denied the bail prayers for seven BNP leaders including Mir Nasir and Khondakar this morning. Advocate Abdus Sattar moved the prayers on behalf of the leaders.
Earlier in the month, the leaders prayed for bail in the court of a metropolitan magistrate but were denied bail. Advocate Abdus Sattar said he will now seek bail for the leaders from the High Court.
President of Chittagong city BNP Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and general secretary Dr Shahadat Hossain now at large are among others accused in the case. Mir Nasir and Khondakar were arrested in connection with the case of setting a CNG auto-rickshaw on fire on November 27 in which two passengers received severe burn-injuries during the hartal.
