Mir Nasir for city govt concept to ensure adequate services

CHITTAGONG, Apr 1 (BSS): BNP leader and former minister Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin here Wednesday demanded of the government to take necessary legal steps for introducing "city government" concept aiming at accomplishing the development work and ensuring adequate utility services to dwellers of metropolitan areas in a coordinated manner.
"The system would help ensure accountability and transparency in the public utility service providing organizations, speed up the delivery process of its services and would also ensure coordination among the organisations which is ultimately helpful to providing desired services to the city-dwellers" Mir Nasir told journalists at his Chatteshari Road residence Wednesday noon.
BNP and Bangladesh Jamaat Islami leaders including former lawmaker Shah Jahan Chowdhury, Dr Shahadat Hossain, Afseruddin Chowdhury, Advocate Nazimuddin, Nazimur Rahman, AKM Rafiqullah Chowdhury, Zakir Ahmed and city JCD president Mosharraf Hossain Dipty, among others, were present at the press briefing.
