Mir Shawkat buried with state honour

Lt Gen (retd) Mir Shawkat Ali, Bir Uttam, was buried with state and military honour at the Banani military graveyard in the city Monday afternoon, reports UNB.
Mir Shawkat Ali, one of the sector commanders during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, died at his Gulshan house on November 20.
He was a minister of the BNP government of 1991-96, and was Member of Parliament from Dhaka city. Mir Shawkat was a former vice-chairman of the BNP.
After Janaza, a guard of honour with state honour was given to late Mir Shawkat Ali.
On behalf of the President, the prime minister and the leader of the opposition in Parliament, wreaths were placed at the coffin of Mir Shawkat Ali.
On behalf of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker Shawkat Ali placed wreath at the coffin.
Later, at around 4 pm, late Mir Shawkat Ali was buried at the Banani military graveyard with state and military honour.
