Miraz backs Jaker Ali to cement his place in ODI format

Wicket-keeper batter Jaker Ali Anik is highly likely to replace injured Mushfiqur Rahim in the second ODI against Afghanistan today (Saturday) at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, reports BSS.
If he plays, then it will be his debut match in ODI format, having debuted earlier in T20 and Test format.
The second game turned out to be 'do or die' game for Bangladesh following their 92-run defeat to Afghanistan in the first game, if they lose the game.
Jaker has long been considered as the successor of Mushfiqur Rahim as the seasoned campaigner is in the twilight of his career.
Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz backed Jaker Ali to be a perfect successor of Mushfiqur Rahim, saying that it's high time for the young batter to showcase his talent.
"We don't have many options for our team combinations. Because Liton Das is sick and if he were here, maybe the team would be more balanced but nothing to do," Miraz told the reporters on Friday at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in UAE.
"Since Liton is not here and that's not an option, best of luck to Jaker Ali. It's a good opportunity for him. If he gives his best, it'll be great for both his career and for the country," he added.
Mushfiqur was ruled out of the remaining two matches following a finger injury, he sustained during the first game in which he scored just 1.
Despite Mushfiqur's recent slump, Miraz said losing Mushfiqur to injury is a big blow for them as his experience is invaluable.
"Mushfiqur Bhai's injury is definitely unfortunate and it's a great loss for us. We all know how valuable Mushfiqur Bhai is for the team," Miraz said.
"His experience is invaluable. His style of play and the way he's served the team have been remarkable."
