Owners and employees of 18 markets of the Mirpur Road area in the city kept their businesses closed Tuesday demanding punishment to those responsible for the death of a trader.

The trader, identified as Jahangir Alam, owner of Rafi Fashion, died Monday after being injured critically when the gas cylinder of a microbus exploded as angry activists of the Dhaka College unit of JCD set it on fire. The JCD activists went on rampage over the news that BNP senior joint secretary general Tarique Rahman in custody hurt his forehead after a fall in bathroom.
