Mirza Alamgir, Abbas, Salam ordered to prison

Three leaders of the BNP, including Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir have been ordered to prison. The two others are Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas and Abdus Salam, member secretary of the party’s Dhaka Metropolitan unit. Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan denied them bail in various cases on Sunday. The Appellate Division had overturned a High Court (HC) bail order for five top BNP leaders on March 9. Mirza Alamgir is accused in two cases of murders during the BNP’s blockade and strikes. Abbas is named in three and Salam in one. They had all pleaded for bail at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court, according to bdnews24.com.
