Sunday, 1 June 2014
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has described the tenure of Sheikh Hasina-led government as ‘dangerous’ and says it is like a rotting body that needs formalin for preservation. ‘Hers is a tenure characterised by formalin. They are applying formalin in all spheres including politics and economy...,’ Mirza Alamgir told a news briefing in the city on Sunday. In reply to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s remark that the government was rotting, Hasina said on Saturday, ‘It’s her who’s rotten by not taking part in the elections (Jan 5 polls). We are trying to keep BNP alive with formalin.’ Mirza Alamgir said on Sunday the BNP did not depend on anybody’s mercy. He asked the government to hold elections under a non-party administration. ‘Then it will be proved who is popular and who is alienated from the people,’ he added, according to bdnews24.com.
