Tuesday, 29 April 2014

A Dhaka Court on Tuesday deferred to June 8 the hearing on charge framing against BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and 26 other leaders and activists of the party in three separate arson cases filed with Paltan and Shahjahanpur police stations. Metropolitan Magistrate Tarek Mainul Islam Bhuiyan fixed the date after a hearing on the time petitions filed separately by several accused in the case, including senior BNP leaders Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel who are now languishing in jail. Defense counsel Advocate Taherul Islam Towhid told reporters that apart from Mirza Alamgir, some other accused, including BNP Joint Secretary General Abdullah Al Noman and Students Affairs Secretary Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Anne, were present at the court during the hearing on Tuesday. On March 2 last year, the Paltan police filed two cases while the Shahjahanpur police filed another case against the BNP leaders and activists for vandalising vehicles and creating panic among the people when a procession of the BNP taken out from its Naya Paltan headquarters was heading towards Moghbazar. The police submitted the charge-sheet against the accused on Dec 24, 2013, according to bdnews24.com.
