Friday, 19 September 2014
A Dhaka court granted bail to BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Thursday in a case filed for vandalising and torching vehicles during a road blockade programme enforced by the then 18-party alliance in 2012, reports UNB.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Alamgir Kabir Raj gave the BNP leader bail on a surety of Tk 5,000 after he surrendered to the court.
Mirza Fakhrul appeared before the court in the afternoon upon his return from Singapore when his counsel M Sanaullah Miah filed a bail petition for him.
Taking cognizance of the charge-sheet, Metropolitan Magistrate Yunus Khan of Dhaka on Sunday issued a warrant for the arrest of the BNP acting secretary general and two others-Mohammad Ali and Nasir - as they did not appear before the court on the day.
Mirza Fakhrul had been in Singapore when the court issued the arrest warrant.
Mirza Fakhrul was not an FIR-enlisted accused, but his name has been inserted in the charge-sheet.
