Saturday, 13 September 2014

Unidentified miscreants attacked ex-Dhaka University teacher Professor Mahbub Ullah on the Supreme Court premises Saturday.
Mahbub Ullah came under the attack as he was leaving the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) auditorium around 1:20pm after attending a programme there.
The programme was arranged marking the launching of a book, titled ‘Bangladesh: Emergency and Aftermath: 2007-2008’, written by BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed, according to a news agency.
With his injures, Mahbub Ullah appeared at a programme at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh around 2:23pm where BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was addressing it.
Hearing the news, Khaleda demanded immediate arrest of the criminals.
Narrating the incident standing beside Khaleda, Mahbub Ullah said,
“About 4-5 youths swooped on me as I was coming out of the Supreme Court Bar Association auditorium and started beating me. At one stage, they fled hurriedly seeing people coming out from the auditorium.”
In an emotion-choked voice, the former DU economics department teacher said, “I’m a teacher and I don’t have any enemy. I just speak up when it’s necessary. I want the attackers to be punished after a fair investigation.” Later, he was admitted to Labaid Specialised Hospital.
