Miscreants paralyse Gem Jute mills

Sunday, 28 March 2010

FE Report
The largest jute mills in North Bengal was forced to stop production Wednesday for the fourth time in six months by local miscreants.
The hoodlums reportedly barred workers, employees and cargo trucks from entering the Gem Jute Ltd at Muslimbagh of Boda in Panchagar.
A statement signed by Manager Public Relations Asma-ul-Roxana said the gang led by one Yakub had taken control of the mills main gate since Tuesday.
"Yakub has persuaded some of the workers to create trouble in the factory for a long time," it mentioned.
The gang also vandalised a portion of the mills and cut off power supply to the unit with the help of the misguided workers, the statement further stated.
The law enforcement agencies did not take any step to ensure employees' security despite repeated requests, a top official of the Gem Jute mills said.
The mills authorities sought government intervention as the gang was very influential in the area.
Gem Jute won the National Export Trophy--Silver and Bronze (2005-2006 and 2007-2008)--for their outstanding contributions to export of jute products.
