Miscreants set fire to bus in city's Kazipara
Internal disputes within bus company blamed
FE REPORT | Saturday, 4 October 2025
Miscreants set a passenger bus belonging to Alif Paribahan on fire in the capital's East Kazipara area on Friday. However, there was no report of casualties in the incident that happened at around 7:00 am.
Sources at the Kafrul Police Station said the bus came under attack when a group of individuals signaled it to stop upon reaching East Kazipara.
The law-enforcers further said those individuals boarded the vehicle, beat up the driver and his assistant, and forced them to get down. Passengers also hurriedly disembarked. The assailants then fired several rounds of bullet at the front windscreen of the bus before setting it on fire.
Rashed Bin Khaled, a duty officer at the Fire Service control room, said upon receiving the information, two units from Mirpur Fire Station rushed to the spot. After a 20-minute effort, the flames were brought under control at around 7:45 am. But, the bus was completely gutted.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Mirpur Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Mohammad Maksudur Rahman said the incident might have stemmed from internal disputes within the bus company. Some employees of the transport service had been dismissed recently, who might have been involved in the incident.
"We are examining CCTV footage to identify the perpetrators," the DMP DC maintained.
So far, no case has been filed in connection with the incident, and none has been arrested, police confirmed.
