Miscreants try to pick up DRU president

Miscreants tried to pick up president of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) Shahed Chowdhury from the city’s Bijoy Swarani crossing on Sunday evening. Shahed Chowdhury, also the city editor of Bangla daily ‘Samokal’, was on his way to Tejgaon newspaper office in his private car from DRU office after Iftar. As he reached Bijoy Sharani crossing, two youths boarding a white microbus intercepted his car around 8:15 pm. They dragged him out from his car and tried to pick him up into the microbus, said Sabbir Newaj, a special correspondent of Samokal. As Shahed Chowdhury raised hue and cry for help, pedestrians came forward to help him. Sensing danger, the two youths fled the scene, said Sabbir Newaj quoting Shahed Chowdhury as saying. Shahed suffered a wound in his hand during the scuffle with the miscreants, he added, according to a news agency.
