Misrule turns horrific: BNP

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Thursday said the government's repressive measures against the opposition leaders and activists have taken a horrific turn, reports UNB.
The government has resorted to the path of repression using the law-enforcement agencies to eliminate the opposition parties, he said in a statement, protesting a police raid on the house of Magura district BNP president Kabir Murad and the arrest of his 67 fellow-villagers.
The BNP leader said, "The repressive acts by this illegal and hated government against the opposition leaders and activists have turned dreadful."
He alleged that the Awami government is relentlessly carrying out brutal torture, dreadful and heinous misdeeds by illegally using the law-enforcement agencies to cling to power and scare people.
Fakhrul said the government, which came to power without people's mandate through a stage-managed election, is trying to divert people's attention to a different direction by oppressing and repressing the opposition.
"It's now a game for the Awami League to persecute its opponents and common people."
He condemned and protested the police raid on the residence of Kabir Murad, also a member of BNP national executive committee, and the arrest of his villagers.
Police raided the residence of Kabir Murad in Magura Wednesday and arrested 67 villagers, as they did not find him, the BNP spokesperson claimed.
Fakhrul also demanded immediate release of the 67 villagers.
