Mitford Hospital area fire tamed

A fire which broke out at a multi-storey building in Mitford Hospital area in the city’s Chawkbazar has been tamed. ‘Eight fire-fighting units brought the blaze under control after about three hours of hectic efforts with the help of police and the locals around 5:00pm. However, no casualty is reported. Fire Service Control Room official Shahzadi Sultana said the fire erupted around 2:00pm at a four-storey building, housing several retail shops of different medicines, valuable drugs and warehouse of medicine-making materials. An affected shop owner at building told this correspondent at 5:00pm: ‘The firefighters seem to have controlled the flame, but smoke is seen coming out from the 1st floor of the building.' Firefighters said the cause of the fire could not be known, according to private TV channels.
