Mitford interns call of strike

Interns at Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital withdrew their strike on Sunday night, according to online news outlets.
Earlier on the day the interns went on work abstention to press for withdrawal of suspension order issued against their one fellow on charges of assaulting a nurse.
Terming the nurses' allegation "not fully true", the probationary doctors enforced the strike around noon.
Their protest move came after the nurses withdrew their demonstrations on assurances from the hospital authorities of taking action against the offender.
The nurses declared Saturday work abstention
from 8:00am to 1:00pm for three days from Sunday to press home their demand for arrest of the intern and cancellation of his registration.
Patients at the hospital are suffering immensely due to the strike.
According to witnesses, intern Rakibul Islam Sujon Saturday asked Bokul Rani Das, a senior staff nurse, to give intravenous saline to a patient. But Bokul said she would do it after finishing her job in hand.
"The intern then verbally abused her, leading to an altercation between them. At one stage, Rakibul dragged Bokul into another room and beat her up," agencies quoted the complaint lodged with the authorities as stating.
The hospital authorities later suspended the intern in the face of demonstrations by the nurses, leading to the current deadlock-a repeat of crises that hit the hospital in old Dhaka at intervals.
