Mixed trend in PCBs' profit in 2011

Operating profits of the country's private commercial banks (PCBs) witnessed a mixed trend in the just-concluded calendar year -- 2011.
However, the amount of profit made by a few banks was relatively lower in 2011 compared to that earned in the previous year (2010). Banks riding on the attractive returns on their investments, particularly in stock market, had earned hefty profits in 2010.
Sector insiders fear that the net profit of the banks might be lower this time after meeting a number of requirements, including the one relating to provisioning against non-performing loans.
