Prices of chilli and local variety of onion witnessed fresh hike while potato and ginger prices declined Friday compared to the previous week.
The city markets witnessed the early presence of variety of summer vegetables with higher prices.
Local varieties of onion were sold between Tk42-44 (murikata variety) and Tk48-50 (Faridpuri) per kg, a hike of Tk 2-4 in the week.
But, imported Indian varieties were traded between Tk38-42 per kg on Friday-almost static, according to key kitchen markets in the city.
Md Noushad Ali, a wholesaler at Rayer Bazar in the city said that harvesting of Murikata variety is in its last stage and the storable Faridpuri variety arrived in the market recently whose price is also high at the farmers' end.
Increase in transportation cost by 60 per cent from Faridpur, Meherpur, Rajbari and Pabna also caused further hike in the prices of local variety, he said.
Chilli was sold between the range of Tk 60-70 per kg on the day marking a Tk15-20 increase in last seven days which traders attributed to the price hike at the growers' level.
Ginger prices trimmed down to Tk80-90 (local) and Tk100-110 (Chinese) per kg-Tk20-25 plunge in last seven days.
Md Ertazul, a trader at Nowabganjbazar in the older part of the city said that many trucks laden with the spice are now coming from the Chittagong Hill Tract and Rangpur despite the blockade.
Entrance of newly harvested crop has helped reduce the price of the tuber spice (ginger), he said.
Potato sold at Tk14-15 (granola, diamond) and Tk18-20 (Desi) per kg-Tk2-5 reduction in a week.
Meanwhile, early variety of summer vegetables including ridge gourd, clocasia stem, snake gourd, sponge gourd, pointed gourd etc entered the kitchen markets but showing higher prices.
