MJ Akbar will leave Dhaka today

MJ Akbar, the journalist and national spokesperson for India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), will leave Dhaka today (Friday). He arrived here on Monday. However, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka did not announce his visit. The hotel Akbar has been staying in after arriving in town on Sept 1 has confirmed having him as its guest. The hotel authorities said he is scheduled to check out later today (Sept 5). Akbar, during the 5-day visit, was interviewed by a private television channel. He also visited Chittagong on Wednesday. A noted journalist, Akbar joined the BJP before India’s 16th Lok Sabha (parliament) election in May. He was editor at India’s daily newspaper The Asian Age. He began his career at The Times of India and later became prominent as editor of Anandabazar Group’s English political weekly – Sunday. He was elected to Lok Sabha from Bihar after joining Indian National Congress in 1989, according to bdnews24.com.
