MKA slams 2 dailies for ‘motivated’ reports

Thursday, 6 February 2014

Senior treasury bench member Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir on Thursday came down heavily on two leading national dailies for what he said publishing ‘motivated’ reports based on false information regarding his wealth statement (affidavit) submitted to the Election Commission (EC). He claimed that the reports carried by the media outlets – the Daily Prothom Alo and The Daily Star – were nothing but lies. The former Home Minister made the remarks taking part in discussion on President’s speech in Parliament. Alamgir said it was not true that his assets witnessed a rise by 1,135 per cent but the rise, if he considers their (media outlets) calculation, was 40 per cent. The AL lawmaker said he has no investment in the European University of Bangladesh (EUB) while his investment in the Farmers Bank is less than two per cent. He also came down heavily on Sujan Secretary Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar and said he took Tk 60 lakh from the EC in the name of research but did not return it as there was no research. “The ACC (Anti Corruption Commission) should look into the matter.” Alamgir also said the two dailies played a supportive role towards 1/11 episode inviting autocratic government and tried to do the same this time too, according to a news agency.
