MLM cos\\\' product quality under question

The parliamentary standing committee on the commerce ministry asked the minister concerned on Thursday to make a statement in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) during the next session on public health in connection with the distribution of substandard and expired products by various multi-level marketing (MLM) companies in the country.
The committee also discussed the export volume of different non-traditional products, the type of products, export targets of the foreign missions of Bangladesh, the targets achieved and the future plans to increase the volume.
The committee was holding its 11th meeting at the parliament building with committee chairman Tajul Islam Chowdhury in the chair.
The committee discussed in details the various steps taken to increase the export volume in the upcoming fiscal year (FY) 2015-16, the supportive policy formulated aiming to increase the export trade. The meeting was informed of the three-year (2015-18) export policy and various initiatives to build infrastructure.
In another meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on public assurance, it was suggested to implement the recommendations of the Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Department (IMED) in connection with the project implementation by local governments and involve local lawmakers in the implementation process of Annual Development Programme (ADP) at the district level.
Besides, the committee suggested keeping the roads in upazilas in a good condition for movement by doing proper maintenance work. It also suggested completing the construction of multi-purpose auditoriums at district and upazila levels quickly by formulating development project proformas (DPPs).
The recommendations were made in the 12th meeting of the committee at the parliament building. Committee chairman Keramot Ali chaired the meeting.
Meanwhile, the parliamentary standing committee on the textile and jute ministry recommended timely disbursing funds allocated for Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) for purchase of jute. The committee also suggested terminating of no additional BJMC workers.
The committee in its 9th meeting also sought cooperation from the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and the finance ministry in getting allocation in the ensuing budget.
The meeting at the parliament building was chaired by committee chairman Saber Hossain Chowdhury.
