Students and interns at Mymensingh Medical College (MMC) continued their strike for the second consecutive day on Sunday protesting an attack on a student of the medical college by miscreants. Intern doctor Tuhin announced the strike at a rally on the college campus protesting the attack on their fellow student Reza Hasan Toki on Saturday afternoon. He said they will continue their strike until the attackers are arrested. The students brought out a silent procession from the campus on Sunday morning which ended at Baghmara medical dormitory. Teachers also joined the procession wearing black badges to express solidarity with the students. Campus sources said a gang of 5-6 miscreants attacked Toki, a 4th year student of MMC, with sharp weapons on his way to the college library from his Bhatikashar residence around 8:00am on Saturday. The miscreants chopped him indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured. Toki was first admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital and later sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital by a helicopter for better treatment. As the news spread around, students staged demonstrations and brought out a procession on MMC campus in the afternoon demanding the arrest of the attackers and their exemplary punishment. The also went on the wildcat strike at 3pm to press home their demand, according to UNB.
