Mob attacks power office
Sunday, 8 June 2014
A power department office in Jhenaidah's Maheshpur was vandalised by locals enraged by an outage lasting several hours, reports bdnews24.com.
Police said a mob ransacked the office of the West Zone Power Distribution Company (WZPDCL) Friday night, infuriated at not finding any staff to speak to.
"They broke the door to enter the office and began smashing the windows, the computer and furniture," said Mahespur Police OC M Shahjahan Ali.
The authorities earlier announced an outage from 8 am to 5 pm to repair a sub-station line, he said.
But the project's contractors left without finishing the job, said WZPDCL's Sub-Assistant Engineer Babul Kumar.
The power supply was restored at 6:30 pm but again it was disrupted half an hour later.
"We tried to keep up the supply until 8pm but failed. Power finally returned at 9pm in Maheshpur town."
