Mob kill three in Chittagong

CHITTAGONG, Apr 16: Villagers in Boalkhali Upazila of Chittagong Friday beat three persons to death suspecting them of being bandits.
The police said the incident took place at Koibartyapara of Kadhurkhil village at about 4:30am. But the police could not identify them.
Abdul Malek, officer in charge of Boalkhali police station, said local people chased six youths suspecting them to be bandits upon hearing a cry from the village night guards. However, they managed to catch three of the youths and beat them severely.
The youths, allegedly, went to the village for committing robbery, he said adding a knife was recovered from the scene.
The bodies were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, a notorious terrorist, Jashim alias 5-star Jashim, an accused in 18 cases including three murders, was killed in a 'gun-battle' with members of Rapid Action Battalion in Baizid Bostami area of the port city Friday morning.
On a tip-off that his gang was planning an act of sabotage, the RAB-7 members conducted a raid in Wajedia residential area under Baizid police station at dawn.
ASP Saidul Islam said the terrorists upon sensing the arrival of law enforcers opened fire on the RAB members.
In the encounter Jashim was critically wounded while his cohorts managed to flee. Two local guns with cartridges were recovered from the scene.
