Mob kills BCL man in Moulvibazar

A Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activist has been killed in a lynch-mob attack while collecting toll money in Kamalganj upazila in Moulvibazar district. The dead is Ibrahim Ali, 30, an activist of Bhanugachh unit of the ruling party’s student wing. Locals said Ibrahim had been demanding toll from a businessman at Bhanugachh Bazar for the last several days. He went to the businessman around 10:30pm on Sunday and demanded a large amount of money as toll from him which trader refused. At one stage, he attempted to swoop on the trader with the aim to extort the money from him. Hearing hue and cry local people rushed to the rescue of the businessman. As the BCL man threatened the locals, they got furious with him and caught him. They also gave him a good beating, leaving him injured. He was rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 1am on Monday. Police said, Ibrahim was accused in several cases filed with Kamalganj Police Station, according to a news agency.
