Sunday, 23 November 2014
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 will deliver its verdict on Mobarak Hossain in war crimes cases on Monday. The (ICT)-1 concluded the trial of Mobarak on June 2 this year and kept the verdict pending. The 62-year-old has been charged on five counts of wartime offences. The prosecution claimed the charges against him had been proven beyond doubt and sought the highest penalty. After Bangladesh’s independence, Mobarak joined Jamaat-e-Islami and later the Awami League (AL). He was, however, later expelled from the AL. A case was filed against him on May 3, 2009, at a Brahmanbaria court for committing crimes against humanity during the country’s independence struggles in 1971. The prosecution on Apr 10 this year formally presented war crimes charges, including abduction, torture and killings, against him, according to a news agency.
