Mobile courts drive to ease traffic jam, realise fine

Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) mobile courts Monday realised about Tk 17,000 as fine, seized seven cars and filed cases against 16 vehicles, reports BSS.
BRTA conducted the drive in different streets in the city to ease traffic congestion.
The vehicles seized were found plying on the road with fake registration, without road permit and necessary fitness.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) assisted the magistrates in conducting mobile courts, an official release said.
Convener of the committee for monitoring and co-ordination of the activities of different agencies for easing traffic jam Additional Secretary Shafiq Alam Mehedi witnessed the mobile court operation.
Director (enforcement) of BRTA Tapan Kumar Sarkar said the mobile courts seized 16 vehicles on Sunday out of which nine were released after penalty and seven others were sent for dumping.
Before the mobile courts launched their operation, the 12-member committee was formed to monitor and co-ordinate the activities of the mobile courts and other concerned agencies held a meeting Sunday at the conference room of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) with Shafiq Alam Mehdi in the chair.
Addressing the meeting, DMP commissioner AKM Shahidul Huq said, police seized 1,694 vehicles last month for violation of traffic rules and unfitness of the vehicles.
He said the government on an average earns Tk 20 million as fine or penalty from the owners of the transports for violation of traffic rules.
