Mobile phoning on steady rise

Use of the mobile phone maintains a rise in the country as the number of active subscribers reached nearly 117.58 million up till this past August.
Official data available with the telecom regulator, however, demonstrate the subscribers' base of some telephony firms on a slight decline during the month as the figure was 116.87 million until end of July of this calendar year.
Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) recently declared the statistics that show the leading telecom service-provider Grameenphone leading the market with 49.74 million users, up from 49.48 million in July.
Subscriber base of Banglalink Digital Communication Limited and Robi Axiata Limited also inched up from 29.76 million and 24.21 million to 29.92 million and 24.67 million respectively.
In addition, state-run telephony firm Teletalk Bangladesh Limited also posted a moderate growth as the total number of the Teletalk users reached 3.72 million from 3.76 million of the previous month.
Meanwhile, the numbers of subscribers of Airtel Bangladesh Limited and Pacific Bangladesh Telecom Limited (citycell) were slightly down to 8.14 million from 8.35 million and to 1.37 million from 1.39 million respectively.
