Mobin sent to jail

A Dhaka court Wednesday sent BNP Vice-president Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury to jail after one-day remand in a case for killing a man in a pre-hartal violence, reports bdnews24.com.
The third additional chief metropolitan magistrate Mohammad Ali Hossain gave the order rejecting his bail petitions.
Mobin was arrested during the June 27 countrywide general strike, called by the main opposition party, on charges of attempted murder of police personnel and obstruction to police duty.
Masud Hossain, counsel for Mobin, at the hearing said that his client was with BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in front of the Iranian ambassador during the time of the incident and that he was not physically capable of picketing in a hartal since one of his legs was artificial.
On June 30, he secured bail in the case filed with the Gulshan Police Station for attempted murder of police personnel, illegal assembly, attack on the police and disrupting police duty.
The first information report of the case said that pro-hartal pickets obstructed the police officials on duty at Wireless Gate at Moghbazar during the shutdown and threw stones at them. They also attempted to murder constable Alamgir, the police alleged in the case.
