Moderate rain hits capital again after winter; more showers likely

FE REPORT | Saturday, 14 March 2026

The capital city experienced moderate rainfall on Friday night, marking another spell of rain after the end of winter and bringing temporary relief from rising temperatures.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, around 18 mm of rainfall was recorded in the capital on Friday. The rain began with hailstones and thunderstorms.
Seeking anonymity, a meteorologist said the city experienced cloudy skies and brief showers in the evening and at night, lasting nearly an hour in some areas.
The Met office also forecast that scattered rain may occur in different parts of the country, with showers likely at a few places over the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, and Sylhet divisions during the next 24 hours.
Officials said such intermittent rain is typical during the transition from winter to the pre-monsoon season.
The Met office also forecast that rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds, may occur at one or two places over the Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions as seasonal thunderstorms begin to develop ahead of the nor'wester season.
Meteorologists noted that temperatures may remain nearly unchanged in the short term, although cloud cover and sporadic rainfall could provide temporary relief from heat in the capital and surrounding areas.
