Modern technology a must to boost agri production

RAJSHAHI, Mar 13 (BSS):  Large-scale promotion of updated information and modern farm machineries and other information and communication technology to the agricultural sector is very vital for boosting its outputs.
Talking to the news agency separately agricultural researchers and information experts said there is no alternative to adopting the information and communication technologies in the farming activities to make the nation self-sufficient in food production in the days ahead.
They, however, said the present government has been working relentlessly for reaching the updated agricultural information to the farmers aimed at freeing the nation from poverty and hunger.
Agriculturist Amirul Islam, an agriculture information and communication specialist, said Agriculture Information Service (AIS) has set up two Agriculture Information and Communication Centres in the district which are gradually being popular.
He said the centres were equipped with modern agricultural information and communication technologies aimed at providing necessary information to the targetted farmers timely and accurately. In this context, Mr Islam said the benefitted farmers have been playing effective role in disseminating the latest agricultural information and communication technologies to their fellow farmers.
