Modern terminal at Cox's Bazar Airport recommended

The Parliamentary Standing Committee has recommended the expansion of the runway of the Cox's Bazar Airport from 6,000 feet to 9,000 feet to enable wide-bodied aircraft to land and also the construction of a modern terminal building at the airport at a cost of Tk 3.50 billion.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Civil Aviation and Tourism Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, MP said this while formally inaugurating the three-day Galileo Chittagong Travel Mart-09 at the Peninsula Chittagong in the port city Thursday.
The Bangladesh Monitor, a travel journal arranged the fair.
Mosharraf Hossain, MP also said a luxury hotel and resort will be built in Chittagong to be run by reputed hotel management chain from abroad, after drawing up a Master Plan.
Bangladesh has a lot of tourism potential but we have not been able to project and promote those abroad, he said and hoped that initiatives of The Bangladesh Monitor like holding of Galileo Chittagong Travel Mart 2009 will go a long way in this regard. He hoped that tourism will fetch substantial amount of foreign exchange for the country in the future.
Editor of Dainik Azadi MA Malek, praised the initiative of The Bangladesh Monitor for holding travel mart in Chittagong. He opined that instead of holding such marts only in Dhaka, these should be held at other important places of the country.
Chairman of the Organising Committee and Editor of The Bangladesh Monitor Kazi Wahidul Alam said The Bangladesh Monitor took the lead in organising Dhaka Travel Mart since 2002 and "we thought it is the right time to try out the idea in other places of the country, beginning with Chittagong."
Emirates Area Manager Bangladesh Hanif Zakaria, Oman Air Country Manager Gihan Karunuratne, Area Head Consumer Banking, Eastern Bank Lmited Chittagong Ahsan Zaman Chowdhury addressed the inaugural ceremony session, while General Manager Galileo Bangladesh Ltd Tofael Ibna Solaiman was present on the occasion.
A total of 19 companies from home and abroad, including airlines, tour operators, hotels, resorts, amusement parks and organisations related with tourism are exhibiting their products and services at the fair.
There are special discounts on air tickets, hotel rooms, tour packages and other products and services of the organisations during the fair.
