CHITTAGONG, Mar 28: Modernisation of Chittagong Port (CP) has been emphasised for the over all development of the country as the port contributes 70 to 80 per cent revenue to the state treasury.
Speakers made the remarks at a seminar on 'Relevance of Chittagong in economic development of Bangladesh' at the Theature Institute in the city Thursday.
Bangladesh Economic Association, Chittagong chapter and Economics Department of Chittagong University (CU) jointly arranged the seminar.
While addressing as chief guest, CU Vice Chancellor Abu Yusuf Alam said Chittagong still remains neglected to a great extent in the stream of development and expressed his apprehension that CP may face a great threat in future as the river Kaunaphuli is losing navigability gradually.
