Red carpet is set to be rolled out as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives in Dhaka today (Saturday) on his maiden two-day state visit as the premier, report agencies.
Modi is scheduled to arrive at 10.15 am at the invitation of his Bangladesh counterpart Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as Dhaka describes the trip as a "crucial" one in terms of the country's "multifaceted" relations with neighbouring India.
The instrument of ratification on Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) will be exchanged in presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after talks between the two countries.
Bangladesh will mainly focus on connectivity issues while India will highlight security aspects.
While briefing reporters at the Foreign Ministry, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali said Dhaka will mainly focus on connectivity issues during talks with Modi and work is on to build South Asia as an integrated region.
Bangladesh is likely to sign a number of agreements and MoUs (memorandums of understanding) with India during the Indian Prime Minister's Dhaka visit.
The deals and MoUs are bilateral trade agreement, inland water protocol, coastal shipping deal, bilateral cooperation deal between BSTI and BIS, MoU on Human Trafficking, MoU on Fake Currency Notes, MoU between coastguards of Bangladesh and India and exchange of documents on Land Boundary Agreement, the foreign minister said.
AFP adds: Top Indian conglomerates Reliance and Adani plan to invest billions of dollars in Bangladesh's rickety power sector, officials announced Friday on the eve of a visit to Dhaka by Narendra Modi.
The two companies will sign memorandums of understanding with Bangladesh's Power Development Board today (Saturday).
