Tuesday, 27 May 2014

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday assured Bangladesh of looking into two long-pending issues -- Teesta water sharing deal and Land Boundary Agreement (LBA).
The assurance came when Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury met Modi at Hyderabad House, in New Delhi, said an official here.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, the Speaker said her meeting with the Indian Prime Minister was fruitful and national issues, including Teesta and LBA, came up for discussions at the meeting.
Shirin Sharmin also said Modi showed interest to visit Bangladesh as he has been invited to visit the neighbouring country.
The Speaker also handed over a letter to Modi written by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Welcoming the Bangladesh Speaker, Modi said the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and India would remain unchanged and regional cooperation would be strengthened, according to a media release issued by the Parliament Secretariat here.
The Indian Prime Minister also said India’s economic ties and overall communication would also be enhanced, according to UNB.
