India Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay a two-day state visit to Bangladesh from June 06, it was officially announced, report agencies.
The visit, Modi's first to Bangladesh after coming to power last year, is at the invitation of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The visit "reflects the importance attached by India to the bilateral relationship", said a ministry of external affairs statement.
"The visit is expected to further expand the cordial and cooperative relationship between the two countries and strengthen the ties of friendship and trust between India and Bangladesh," it added. During the visit, Modi will hold discussions with Hasina. His programme will also include a call on President Mohammed Abdul Hamid, the statement said
The government expects the visit will strengthen the 'excellent' bilateral relations.
His 'state visit' has been announced days after Indian parliament cleared the way for implementing the land boundary agreementĀ (LBA) to swap adversely held enclaves.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who met him on the sidelines of the last year's SAARC Summit at Kathmandu, invited him long before.
