In an effort to keep his poll promise of zero-tolerance policy on graft, Prime Minister of india Narendra Modihas directed the Home and Law Ministry to fast-track trial in criminal cases pending against Members of Parliament. According to Association for Democratic Reforms, 186 MPs are facing criminal charges in various courts. Going by the sheer number of politicians involved, the journey ahead is not going to be easy. Modi government desires to ensure that act of seeking bail, adjournments and other legal procedures should not be used as delaying tactics. Further, the government wants to ensure that cases against politicians should not drag on beyond a stipulated time. During lok sabha election campaign, he had promised a zero-tolerance policy on graft if he was selected by voters. After getting a clear instruction from the Prime Minister, the Law Ministry in coordination with the Home Ministry has started exploring ways to expedite cases that have been lodged against politicians, according to BSS.
