Tuesday, 23 September 2014
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will ask Sheikh Hasina to be alert to threats she faces, when they meet later this month in New York on the sidelines of the 69th UN General Assembly. Sheikh Hasina arrived at J F Kennedy International Airport at 10:20am on Monday (US eastern standard time) to attend the 69th UNGA, beginning at the UN headquarters tomorrow (Sept 14). She will join a reception to be hosted by US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama and another reception on Sept 23 and a luncheon of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Sept 24. She will address the UNGA on Sept 27. Indian intelligence says it has already secured details on attempts by a Western intelligence agency to ‘destabilise’ Bangladesh by using elements of the army to bring down the elected government. Senior intelligence officials said on condition of anonymity that this western intelligence agency is cultivating some elements in the top echelon of Bangladesh army and plans to create a government of ‘national consensus’ after toppling Hasina. A senior defence intelligence official operating in Dhaka under diplomatic cover is said to be the mastermind of these covert operations, they said, according to bdnews24.com.
