BNP expressed hope that all the unresolved issues between the Bangladesh and India, including the Teesta river water-sharing, would be resolved during the Indian Prime Minister's upcoming visit, reports BSS.
BNP international affairs secretary and spokesman Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon expressed the expectation at a press conference at the party's central office at Nayapaltan on Wednesday.
Welcoming Narendra Modi's visit, he said, "People of Bangladesh and BNP are ready to accord a reception to Modi on his arrival in the country. I, on behalf of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, will welcome him here."
"We hope all the unresolved issues will be resolved during Modi's tour. Particularly, the problem relating to the Teesta water-sharing will be solved, and killings in the frontiers will be reduced further."
He also expressed hope that good relations between the people of the two countries would further be cemented through the visit of Narendra Modi.
Claiming that his party always speaks for the interest of Bangladesh and its people, the BNP leader said, "For this reason, our party criticised Indian activities, like - the killings in the frontiers, and demanded sharing of the Teesta waters.
"That doesn't mean that we are anti-Indian," Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon said.
"Many people in the government brand BNP as anti-Indian, it's not true. Not against India, but BNP always speaks for the country's interest. We want an effective relationship with India," he added.
BNP chairperson's adviser Mahmudul Hasan, environment affairs secretary Afzal H Khan, information and research affairs secretary Habibur Rahman Habib and assistant organising secretary Abdus Salam Azad were present, among others, at the press conference.
