The main accused in Moghbazar triple-murder case Shah Alam Khandakar, alias ‘Kala Babu’ was killed in a ‘shootout’ with detectives near Moghbazar Wireless level-crossing in the city on Monday. Tipped off that Kala Babu and his associates were staying in the Moghbazar Wireless level-crossing area, a DB police team conducted a drive in the area around 4am, Deputy Commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Masudur Rahman said. He said Kala Babu and his associates opened fire on the plainclothes police sensing their presence, prompting the law enforcers to fire back triggering a brief gunfight that left Kala Babu dead on the spot and two policemen injured. The DB team also arrested Kala Babu’s two associates and recovered one pistol loaded with three bullets from the spot. On the night of August 28, miscreants gunned down three people – Ranu Akhter Brishti, 28, wife of Mohammad Abul Hossain, her younger brother Hridoy’s friends – Munna, 20, and Billal Hossain, 25, and injured another in a house in Sonalibagh in the city’s Moghbazar following a rivalry with local land grabbers and extortionists. Later, on Aug 30, a case was filed against 15 people, including Kala Babu, with Ramna Police Station in connection with the triple murder, according to UNB.
