Mohammedan force Victoria SC to concede first defeat, Abahani win over Surjo Tarun

In a high voltage match, Dhaka Mohammedan SC forced Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal's high flying Victoria SC to concede the first defeat in the 4th round match of the Metropolis Premier Division Cricket League outplaying them by seven wickets at Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatulla Wednesday, reports UNB.
In the day's other matches, holders Abahani Limited managed a five-wicket win over all losers Surjo Tarun Club at BKSP ground in Savar while Gazi Tank Cricketers defeated Kalabagan KC by two wickets at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
After the day's outcome, four teams-Abahani Limited, Mohammedan SC, Gazi Tank Cricketers and Victoria SC jointly dominated the league table securing six points each after playing four league encounters.
Sent into bat first at Fatullah, star studded Victoria SC were dismissed cheaply for 194 runs in 42.5 overs with top order national batsman Jahurul Islam contributing the team highest 53 runs off 67 deliveries including six fours and two sixes.
Besides, former national skipper Shakib Al Hasan (36) Pakistani Kamran Sajid (36), Pakistani Ahmed Shehjad (18), Soumya Sarker (15), spinner Mosharraf Hossain (10) were the other notable batsmen reaching the double figures while celebrated national opener Tamim Iqbal scored just six runs off eight balls with a boundary.
Yasim Mortuza caused the major damage in Victoria innings claiming four wickets for 28 runs while Hammad Azam and Nur Hossain took two wickets each giving away 20 and 48 runs respectively.
Chasing a target of 195 runs, Dhaka Mohammedan SC Limited, riding on all round performance by Pakistani Hammad Azam, faced no trouble to reach their ultimate goal scoring 198 runs for the loss of three wickets in only 42.2 overs.
After the dismissal of three top order batsmen-Imtiaz Hossain (7), Umar Amin (0) and national coloured Imrul Kayes (50) -for 92 runs in 28.4 overs, skipper Naeem Islam pairing with Pakistani Hammad Azam guided the team towards victory contributing unbeaten 106 runs in the 4th wicket stand.
Hammad Azam, who earlier grabbed two wickets, also displayed his brilliance in batting quick firing unconquered 83 runs off just 50 balls featuring eight fours and five sixes while national all rounder Naeem Islam scored an unbeaten 50 runs off 110 balls with three boundaries.
Sent into bat first at BKSP, Surjo Tarun Club scored a fighting total of 240 runs for 7 in stipulated 50 overs.
Pakistani batsman Raja Ali, came to bat in number four, hammered the team's highest 76 runs off 73 deliveries with the help of four fours and three sixes while one down Gazi Salahuddin added another polished 71 runs off 97 balls featuring eight boundaries.
Besides, opener Jupitar Ghosh (37), Taiabur Parvez (23), opener Kamram Monjur (13) were the other contributors for Surjo Tarun Club.
Farhad Reza grabbed three wickets for 37 runs.
In reply, Abahani Limited had to play 49.2 over to score the match-winning 242 runs for the loss of five wickets with two down Marshall Ayub playing the anchor role for team victory contributing 91 runs off 105 balls hitting six fours and three sixes.
Besides, English cricketer Peter Trego scored 60-ball 44 runs with three fours, opener Pundit Singh made 35 runs off 43 deliveries with six fours, Indian Rajat Bhatia added an unbeaten 29 runs off 33 balls hitting two fours while another opener Anamul Haque scored 32-ball 29 runs with five boundaries.
Taiabur Parvez took two wickets for 45 runs.
In Mirpur, Kalabagan KC batted first after losing the toss and were bundled out cheaply for 132 runs in 38.2 overs.
Rifatullah (43), Nasiruddin Faruque (31), Mohammad Salman (18), Nazimuddin Ripon (not out 12) were the main scorers for Kalabagan KC.
Alauddin Babu bowled devastatingly to grab five wickets for 27 runs while Nayyar Abbas and Nasir Hossain took two wickets for 25 and 27 runs respectively.
Chasing a poor target, Gazi Cricketers easily reached their ultimate goal scoring match-winning 133 runs for loss of eight wickets in 38.5 overs.
Lower order Nazmul Milon contributed the team highest unbeaten 39 runs off 68 deliveries with four fours and one six while Mominul Haque scored 38-ball 24 runs with four fours.
Shohag Gazi and Shahadat Hossain claimed two wickets each for 34 and 54 runs respectively.
