Mohammedans beat Abahani by 2-1

Mohammedans SC finished their Citycell Bangladesh League campaign in style when they beat arch-rivals Abahani Limited by 2-1 goals in their last league match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS) in the city Wednesday, reports UNB.
With the day's win, Mohammedans SC, which earlier finished second behind three-time league champions Abahani Limited in the league, secured 62 points from 24 matches. Holders Abahani Limited, which suffered their first defeat in the last league match, remained at 67 points playing 24 matches.
In the day's match, striker Zahid Hasan Emily and Mamunul Islam scored one goal each for Mohammedans SC while Ghanaian striker Awudu Ibrahim netted the lone goal for Abahani Limited. The match was locked 1-1 during the first half.
Emily opened the account for Mohammedans SC in the 28th minute with a placing shot from inside the danger zone utilizing a left wing cross from Nigerian striker Alamu Bukola (1-0).
Abahani Limited restored parity in the 62nd minute when their striker Ibrahim took a splendid shot from 20 yards sending the ball home giving no chance to experienced Mohammedans custodian Aminul Haque (1-1).
After the lemon break, Abahani went all out for a lead playing organized football. Ghanaian striker Sheriff Din Mohammed pushed the ball towards the home from vantage position taking a minus from Ibrahim, but this time custodian Aminul made no mistake to foil the attempt.
Abahani Limited launched another attack in the 71st minute. Onrushing Sheriff, taking a pass from Zahed Parvez, took an angular shot from the D-box after dodging past two opponent defenders, but custodian Aminul again made a brilliant save fisting the ball away.
Today's matches: Shuktara Juba Sangsad against Chittagong Mohammedans SC (Narayanganj Stadium 3:30 pm) and Farashganj SC against Arambagh KS (BNS 4:00 pm).
