CHITTAGONG, Sep 10 (BSS): Chittagong Port Protection Council (CPPC) today declared Saif Power Tech Ltd (SPTL) as persona non grata in Chittagong and asked it to leave Chittagong Port within one month.
President of newly formed CPPC ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, also Chittagong city unit president of the ruling Awami League (AL), demanded of the government to black list the Saif Power Tech and cancel their licence as berth operator at Chittagong New mooring Container Terminal.
Mr Mohiuddin alleged that Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) has relaxed some rules and conditions of the bidding to favour a local company, SPTL of Bangaldesh, which, he said is incompetent to operate the specialised terminal.
Chowdhury said this while addressing a public rally held at Laldigi Maidan this afternoon.
He alleged that five international and local firms finally submitted their tenders for operation of the terminal but CPA Chairman has chosen SPTL relaxing some rules.
Saif Power is the present berth operator at Chittagong Container Terminal, another container terminal of the CPA built in late 1980s.
Chowdhury, also an former mayor of Chittagong City Corporation, formed a platform, CPPC and organized a series of programmes for the cancellation of the license of the SPTL.
Addressing the rally Bangladesh Samaj Tantrick Dal executive president Mainuddin Khan Badal, MP urged the port authority to permit an efficient and transparent firm to operate such specialized terminal canceling the licence of SPTL.
