CHITTAGONG, Dec 03: Chittagong city Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury observed that it had become essential to set up a Circuit Bench of High Court Division in Chittagong to ensure prompt settlement of the Customs and port related complicated cases, unhindered realisation of revenue and for the greater interest of importers and exporters.
He made the observation when advocate AM Anwarul Kabir, the newly elected Bar Council member, met the Mayor at his office yesterday. Mr Kabir was elected to the Bar Council with the highest number of votes from greater Chittagong and Noakhali. He is a former President of Chittagong Bar Association and the principal of Bangabandhu Law Temple.
City Mayor said, despite contributing maximum revenue to the national exchequer, Chittagong still remained neglected in different sectors. Port channels had lost their utility to some extent due to lack of proper maintenance. Urban Master Plan in Chittagong was yet to see the light of day and the service oriented organisations were still crawling due to lack of adequate finance and guidelines.
Former MP Rafiqul Anwar, Enamul Hoque Danu, Advocates M A Naser, Iftekher Saimul Chowdhury, Belayet Hossain also spoke on the occasion among others.
