Moinul Islam appointed as chairman of BAEC

Distinguished nuclear scientist Dr. M Moinul Islam has been appointed as the chairman (routine duties) of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) in an office order issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology on Sunday.
Prior to his appointment as chairman, he was appointed as member (physical science) of the Commission through a separate office order. Before assuming the role of chairman, he served as the Director of the Planning and Development Division at the Commission's headquarters, says a press release.
Mr Islam was born into a noble Muslim family in South Halishahar, Chattogram district. He joined the Health Physics and Radioactive Waste Management Division of the INST at the Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE) in Savar as a scientific officer on April 16, 1995.
He earned his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in physics from the University of Chittagong. Later, he obtained a degree in Physics and Technology of Nuclear Reactors from the University of Birmingham, UK, and a PhD for his research in Physics and Radioactive Waste Management from the University of Warwick, UK.
Throughout his professional career, he has played vital roles, including Head of the Health Physics and Radioactive Waste Management Division at INST (Savar), Director of INST, Director of the Physical Science Division at BAEC (Dhaka), Director of the International Affairs Division, and the National Liaison Officer (NLO) to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
