Mojaheed indicted on war crimes charges

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 Thursday indicted Jama'at-e-Islami secretary general Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed on seven specific charges of crimes against humanity committed during the liberation war, reports BSS.
Justice ATM Fazle Kabir, chairman of the three-member panel of ICT-2 fixed July 19 for recording the opening statement from the prosecution after framing the charges. The tribunal also asked the defence to submit their list of witnesses on that day.
The charges against Mojaheed include genocide, conspiracy in killings of intellectuals, murder and confinement.
Mojaheed was charged with inciting, giving direction on the killings of Martyred Journalist Sirajuddin Hossain, musician Altaf Mahmud in separate incidents.
"Noted journalist Sirajuddin Hossain wrote an article in Daily Ittefaq citing the ongoing atrocities of Pakistani occupation army during the liberation war. You wrote a counter article in Daily Sangram defending the brutal crackdown. Following your article, on December 10, 1971, some people with their face covered abducted Sirajuddin Hossain from his Chamelibagh home in the city. He was never found again," Justice Kabir said framing the first charge.
