MoL signs Tk 885m deal with Indian company

The Ministry of Land (MoL) signed on Monday an agreement with IL&FS Technology Limited, India worth around Tk 885 million for digitisation of land records under the Digital Land Management System (DLMS) project.
Project director Zillur Rahman and assistant vice-president of IL&FS Technology Limited Ashis Kumar signed the deal on behalf of their respective sides at the conference room of MoL.
Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif, State Minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, Senior Secretary of the MoL Mohammad Shafiul Alam, Chief Operating Officer of Il&Fs Technology Limited Durga Prosad, Deputy High Commissioner of Indian High Commission in Dhaka Sandip Chakraborty and Asian Development Bank representative Bidyut Kumar Saha, among others, were present.
The project which started in July 2011 is likely to end in December 2015. Asian Development Bank (ADB) is the donor agency of the project.
The main objective of the project is to improve efficiency of limited resources by bringing changes in the delivery of public services supported by the state-of-the-art technologies and promoting e-governance applications to enhance the quality of service delivery and thus establish good governance.
Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif said the ultimate goal of the project is to ensure good governance in the land administration system at operational level through establishing a DLMS.
He said 45 upazilas in seven districts will come under the project. All the upazilas of Gopalganj, Gazipur, Sherpur, Pabna and Dinajpur as well as all other upazilas of Jamalpur district except Sadar and Bagha and Puthia upazilas of Rajshahi district will come under the digitised land management system.
He said the government has a plan to digitise all the land offices of the country.
"The project will help reduce the difficulties on land management system. It will bring about a positive change in land management system in the country," he told the FE after the meeting.
The state minister for land said the project will help gear up the ministry's activities.
