Momtaj Iqbal MP laid to rest in Sunamganj

SUNAMGANJ, Apr 18 (UNB): Momtaj Iqbal, Parliament Member (MP) from Sunamganj-4 constituency, was laid to rest at her family graveyard here today (Saturday).
Her body was flown here from Dhaka by a helicopter and a Namaz-e-Janaza was held near the old bus stand area before burial.
Another Namaz-e-Janaza for Momtaj Iqbal was held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at 1:00pm.
Speaker M Abdul Hamid Advocate, Tofail Ahmed MP, M Rahmat Ali MP, Chief Whip Abdus Shahid, Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad MP, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister GM Qader, Ruhul Amin Hawlader MP and Parliament Secretary Ashfaq Hamid attended the Janaza.
Speaker Abdul Hamid, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, on behalf of the Prime Minister, Tofail Ahmed, Whip Sagufta Yasmin and Suranjit Sengupta placed wreaths on the coffin.
Besides, the Jatiya Party chairman and the chief whip paid their respect on behalf of the Jatiya Party placing wreaths on her coffin.
Begum Momtaj Iqbal died of cardiac arrest at Bangladesh Medical College Hospital (Uttara) in the city Friday night at the age of 60.
She left behind two daughters, one son and a number of well-wishers to mourn her death.
Momtaj, wife of former minister late Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury, was elected MP for the first time defeating BNP leader Fazlul Haque in the last parliament elections.
Deputy Speaker Shawkat Ali has expressed deep shock at the death of Momtaj.
In a condolence message, he prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Recalling the praiseworthy role of Begum Momtaj in the first session of the current Parliament, the Deputy Speaker said the country had lost a successful leader, a social worker and a politician with the death of Momtaj.
