Mongla port to be more developed, says minister

KHULNA, Nov 28: The Mongla port will be more developed and dynamic through various infrastructural developments including dredging of the channel, said the Shipping Minister Shahajan Khan while he was addressing a meeting of advisory committee of Mongla port authority at Khulna circuit house Saturday. In this connection, he sought cooperation to the port users and others concerned.
The minister presided over the first advisory meeting of Mongla port and the meeting was attended among others State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Shufian, KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Habibun Nahar, MP, secretary of Shipping Ministry Abdul Mannan Hawlader, chairman, Mongla port authority commoder M A K Azad and members of the advisory committee.
The minister said that the port had resumed its spirit for the proper measures taken by the Government for it's up-gradation.
The minister said that a British company had come forward with a proposal to invest Tk 55billion to make the Mongla port like a international standard port by the infrastructural development.
The minister said that Nepal, Bhutan and India will use the port as transit.
The meeting also informed the FE that, eight projects had been taken at a cost of Tk. 4.75billion for the development of the Mongla port.
